Los Banos Unified High Schools Recognized in Latest U.S. News & World Report

LOS BANOS, CA — Los Banos High School and Pacheco High School have earned recognition in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Rankings, highlighting the continued academic progress and dedication of students, educators, administrators, and staff throughout the Los Banos Unified School District.

The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate nearly 18,000 public high schools across the nation, using multiple measures of academic performance and college and career readiness. The evaluation includes factors such as state assessment proficiency, college readiness, Advanced Placement (AP) participation and performance, and graduation rates.

Pacheco High School Maintains Top Ranking in Merced County

Pacheco High School continues to demonstrate strong academic performance, maintaining its position as the No. 1 high school in Merced County. In addition, Pacheco has earned a place among the top third of high schools in California, further recognizing the academic achievements of its students and the commitment of its school community.

This continued recognition reflects the collective efforts of Pacheco students, teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff who work together to provide rigorous academic opportunities and prepare students for success beyond high school.

Los Banos High School Moves Up in County Rankings

Los Banos High School has also made significant progress in the latest rankings, moving from 10th to 6th among high schools in Merced County.

The advancement represents an important achievement for the school community and reflects the ongoing work to strengthen student achievement, expand opportunities, and support students in reaching their academic and postsecondary goals.

“These rankings are a reflection of the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our students, along with the commitment of our teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff,” said Bree Valla, Superintendent of Los Banos Unified School District. “We are proud to see both of our comprehensive high schools recognized for their accomplishments, and we are equally proud of the work taking place every day to support student success.”

Valla emphasized that while recognition is an important milestone, the district remains focused on continuous improvement and ensuring that every student has access to meaningful opportunities.

“As a district, we remain committed to providing robust opportunities in Career Technical Education, strengthening college and career pathways, and improving proficiency outcomes across all grade levels,” Valla said. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every student in Los Banos Unified graduates prepared and confident to pursue college, a career, technical education, military service, or whatever path they choose after high school.”

The recognition of Pacheco High School and Los Banos High School is an encouraging reflection of the work happening throughout Los Banos Unified School District. From classroom instruction and academic interventions to Career Technical Education, college preparation, extracurricular opportunities, and student support services, district employees continue to work collaboratively to help students reach their full potential.
